SeaWorld San Diego just finished their busy Summer season with the debut of their new roller coaster, Manta, but they're already looking toward the park's next big expansion.

The park has announced that they will embark on an 18 month construction project that will transform the park's entrance area into Explorer's Reef, an immersive undersea themed area.

Highlighted by a giant translucent wave structure, guests will feel as if they enter the ocean and head undersea upon arrival, and discover four new touch-pool exhibits in the three acre development.  Guests will be able to get up close and personal with horseshoe crabs, bamboo sharks, and rays in the new pools.

The new plaza will take into consideration the fact that more guests are arriving to the park with admission tickets already in hand, and the need for ticket booths is slowly declining.  Guests will also find it much easier to schedule special programs, dinner reservations, and other special add-ons once they arrive.

Construction on Explorer's Reef will begin this December, and continue to March of 2014.  The park will use a temporary entrance while the transformation takes place.
